11th September update

Dear Friends

We cannot be anything but appalled by the tragic events in New York and Washington DC today and many may be in a state of shock, confusion, difficulty with what has happened. And so I am writing to ask all our intercessors and friends to pray. But how do we assess what happened today and how do we pray?

I was in with a customer this afternoon when I heard of the unfolding events. It was the last call of the day. And so for the next three hours on my journey home I was tuned to the news reports of the horrific events. There was outrage, stupefaction, shock and cries for revenge amongst other emotions being expressed in the varying reports.

When I got home I tuned into the Christian channel on Sky TV here in the UK for the next three hours. This gave a balancing perspective for Christians. There was still the horror of what had happened. But there was another side, the spiritual perspective, also being given out. It was a live programme with the presenters, Rory and Wendy, having telephone conversations with various Christian leaders around the globe. I would like to encourage us with extracts from some of those who were on tonight's programme.

Mahesh Chavda, live from the USA, reminded us that the weapons of our warfare are mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds and that greater is he that is in us than he that is in the world. He has put guidelines for prayer on his web site www.watchofthelord.com, which you might like to visit. He also believed that we should use the events of today as a wake up call to intercession, to pray for the nations and revival.

Pastor Carter Canlon, senior pastor of the David Wilkerson church in Manhattan shared with us how God had had them cancel all their various programmes for the last 40 days and simply had them pray, praying along the lines that the USA would forsake their evil ways and return to God. He reminded us of the verse in Hebrews 4:16, "Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we might obtain mercy and find help in time of need". NKJV

Cindy Jacobs, who heads up Generals of Intercession and is mightily used by God to prophesy to the nations, suggested we should pray for Europe as otherwise something terrible is going to happen here.

He also reminded us of Psalm 91, which I would highly recommend you read, particularly if you are afraid at this time.

Rick Joyner, of Morning Star Ministries, reminded us that every believer has the mind of the Lord and the power of the Lord that crushes the enemy under our feet. Also, that abiding in Him brings perfect peace.

Our hearts go out to those who have lost loved ones and to those who were hurt and their families. Let us pray for healing of those who bodies and emotions were hurt today. Let us pray for forgiveness to flow and we loose anger and bitterness of those who were badly affected by today's events.
